June 2, 2014 - Weekly Letter
Hey guys,
Well, I wish I could tell you all about the most exciting experiences
and best stories this week, but sadly my week wasn't all that. We
taught a lot more than usual this week, but nobody we taught was
anything worth writing about, basically if you must know most of our
lessons were with investigators who sadly don't commit to anything.
It's really frustrating when nobody you teach see the real concept
behind what is truly important rather than work or some other
distraction in their life. A lot of this week was just contacting and
we picked up a lot of appointments off of them, wouldn't you know it
dogged us. We had a plan to teach three lessons yesterday with some
people we met on the street, but one guy totally lied to us on the
phone and cancelled the appointment and the other two were false
addresses. We have a appointment tonight at six with a contact so we
will se if it shows to be promising.
In recent new with our new contacts Maria, Edgar, and Jasmine, they
are awesome people, but within the last two appointments we had this
week with them, they kind have lost concept of why we are there. We do
a lot of fun things with them like make tortillas, or help them with
homework, and help each other with the language both English and
Spanish, but we have trouble trying to get to the lesson with them and
baptism also imposes a problem with a Catholic background. These
investigators are a piece of work, you have to beat them like a piece
of meat to have them just listen and understand the importance of a
concept.
The three greatest things that happened this week was first, we
weren't finding much success with our teaching and such so me and my
companion went to Wendy's and got frosties, so that really made my
day. The second happened yesterday, we went to a Spanish family home
evening I. The mission home and there was a great lesson, I think, I
didn't catch a whole lot of it, but there was also a fun little game
that the Hispanics really got into, it was fun to see and watch. I
would explain it, but it really is so simple that it is too complex to
explain. Then we just hung out for a little bit and talked with some
people, and in attempted my first conversation with a member or a
native for that matter that lasted longer than a minute. It was
alright we both understood each other and it was a good conversation,
we didn't get home until like ten, which meant we went to bed late,
really late. And then we did my favorite thing at four I. The morning
as you can tell, we baked down to the monument and took pictures in e
morning with the sunrise, simply gorgeous. It was a super fun day and
super busy with all that we have done.
That's about it for the week, sorry it isn't near as exciting as you
hoped, but I hope eh pictures made up for it, I have more on the
camera, these were just on the iPad so don't worry I took plenty of
pictures and I think I have mastered how to set the camera to make
good quality pictures.
Oh and on a side note, we plan to make a movie called revenge of the
chinches (cheenches) or revenge of the bedbugs. Elder Hartzog has been
bitten to death so who know what we do now, stink'n little buggers,
they are so annoying and never die.
Love you guys, miss you tons, enjoy the summer, and have fun this week.
Love,
Ethan
